Visit Bewdley in Worcestershire
Nestling on the banks of the River Severn and on the edge of the ancient Wyre Forest, Bewdley is a picturesque Georgian town with an attractive shopping and riverside area.
Home to one of the country's largest inland river regattas, the town has always been an important river crossing. The first Bewdley Bridge was constructed in 1447 and the iconic arched stone bridge built by Thomas Telford in 1798 which still spans the river today, is testament to its industrial heritage.
As well as being able to choose from a wealth of restaurants, pubs and cafes, visitors can enjoy the many varied attractions in and around the town. Bewdley's award winning museum offers a perfect family day-out with events and activities for all ages. The town also hosts numerous events throughout the year including a carnival and arts, beer and angling festivals.
For those seeking high-octane fun, there's the opportunity to take a tree top walk in the ancient Wyre Forest on the outskirts of Bewdley, thanks to the ‘Go Ape' experience which combines zip wires and wooden walkways with breathtaking scenery. One of the largest surviving areas of ancient semi natural woodland left in Great Britain, the Wyre Forest is a beautiful spot and as well as Go Ape, it boasts an attractive visitor centre, forest walks and an ‘all ability' trail. Other popular attractions close to Bewdley include the Severn Valley Railway and the West Midland Safari & Leisure Park.
Rail enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy the 16 mile journey from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on a splendidly restored steam train and the route offers some superb views of the River Severn. If they're lucky, passengers will also catch a glimpse of some of the animals in the nearby West Midland Safari and Leisure Park. A great day out whatever the weather, visitors to the park can check out the animals from the comfort of their own vehicles or hop on a safari bus for a guided tour. There's also an amusement park filled with rides that will thrill and delight.
