Visit Redditch in Worcestershire

Designated a new town in 1964 and close to the M42, Redditch enjoys a successful mix of old and new.
The town originally grew up from a small hamlet known as 'La Rededich' that had developed around the Abbey at Bordesley, which was built by Cistercian Monks in the 12th century. Indeed, the first documented reference to the settlement dates back to 1348 and Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre displays fascinating artefacts from the site's first archaeological dig in 1864 and from more recent digs.

In the 19th Century, Redditch became famous as a centre for needle making and in 1730, Forge Mill was built - the world's only remaining needle scouring mill. Today the Mill has been turned into a successful museum and visitors can take a step back in time to see original water powered machinery along with models depicting scenes of the past.

Also worth a visit is the Transport Museum at Wythall. Housing one of the most significant collections of preserved buses in the country, it organises themed days and events throughout the year which are a must for anyone who loves their vehicles.

If history's not your thing, the modern Kingfisher Shopping Centre is home to a range of leading stores and features mosaics by internationally renowned artist Sir Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi. It also complements the open air market which is situated in the conservation area of Church Green and offers a host of different stalls.
Redditch has numerous leisure facilities including a national standard BMX track, municipal golf course, sports centres and the architecturally renowned Edwardian Palace Theatre.  It's also well served in terms of green space with two Green Flag award winning parks, Morton Stanley and Arrow Valley Country Park, just a few miles from the town centre.
