Nigel Mansell OBE (1953-present)

Former motor racing driver Nigel Ernest James Mansell OBE was born in Upton upon Severn on August 8th 1953. Nigel was 1992 Formula 1 World Champion and 1993 Indycar Champion.

Nigel became a F1 driver in 1981 with the Lotus team and received his first podium after just 5 races. In 1985 Nigel had his first win at Brands Hatch. A year later in Adelaide the tyre of his Williams Honda exploded costing him a race finish and more importantly to miss the World Championship title by a single point.

1989 saw Nigel in the scarlet red number 27 FERRARI where he won on his first time out for the Italian team in Brazil. Nigel returned to the Williams team in 1991. Then in Hungary on 16th August 1992 (his daughter Chloe's birthday), Nigel finally stood on the podium as the 1992 Formula 1 World Champion. In 1993 Nigel officially became an Indy car driver and won the Indycar title on his first attempt.
