The variety of habitats in this reserve is reflected in the range of plants and animals occurring here. The apple orchard contains old lichen-encrusted trees above a pasture containing many herbs including meadowsweet, common spotted orchid and occasional wild daffodils. The Leigh Brook is relatively unpolluted and still supports a wide variety of invertebrate life. There are 3 separate meadows and more than half of the reserve is woodland.
