This year’s Christmas concert at Worcester Cathedral, ‘Love is Born’ is a musical celebration of Christmas, centred on the compositions and arrangements of Sir David Willcocks, who was organist of Worcester Cathedral from 1950-1957 and was principle conductor of the Three Choirs festival. He died in September this year. Willcocks is particularly known for his widely used choral arrangements of popular Christmas carols such as the delightful descant in ‘O come, all ye faithful’, it being so familiar with its soaring high notes. He was also organist at King’s College Chapel from where the famous Nine Lessons And Carols service is broadcast each year.

‘Love is Born’ will feature audience participation in many popular carols – including ‘O come, all ye faithful’, ‘Hark, the Herald angels sing’, ‘God rest you merry gentlemen’ – accompanied by brass ensemble and organ and with the choirs of Worcester Cathedral and the Worcester Festival Choral Society.

During the concert interval there is a chance to enjoy a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate and mince pies and see the glittering avenues of decorated Christmas trees lighting up the medieval cloister. The Cathedral shop will also be open to browse for Christmas gifts.
