This June Hartlebury Castle is celebrating the best of British with a production of Shakespeare's The Tempest on Friday 10 June, followed by a choral concert in honour of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday on Saturday 11 June.
Heartbreak Productions will once again be taking Shakespeare outdoors with their mystical rendition of Shakespeare's final play, The Tempest. More of an event than a performance, Heartbreak Productions' telling of The Tempest against the atmospheric backdrop of Hartlebury Castle will transport you to Prospero's magical isle and take you on a memorable adventure.
The following evening Hartlebury will be celebrating the 90th birthday of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, with a performance by the Kidderminster Valentines choir in the magnificent Great Hall. There will be an opportunity to enjoy a piece of birthday cake and sing happy birthday to Her Majesty, with ticket holders welcome to enjoy their own picnics in the carriage circle from 6pm onwards, where they can also view the beautiful magnolia tree which was planted by Queen Elizabeth herself.
Jacqui Watson, Trustee for Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust, explains the appeal of the events:
“2016 has been a great opportunity to celebrate some of Britain's national treasures, with the Queen's 90th birthday and the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. What better way to commemorate these two great British icons than with a production of one of Shakespeare's most loved plays to start the weekend on Friday night, followed by a choir performing songs covering the nine decades of Her Majesty's life on the Saturday? It's a chance to really treat yourself to a great evening out."
Tickets for the Tempest on 10 June at 7.30pm cost £14 for adults and £7.50 for children if booked in advance, to book call 01299 250416 or visit the museum shop. Tickets will be available on the door for £15.50 for adults and £8.50 for children. Pre-theatre suppers will be provided in the Great Hall before the performance, although picnicking in the carriage circle is also welcome. It is recommended that audience members bring folding chairs or blankets to the performance.
Tickets for the Valentines Choir on 11 June are £12 and can be book in advanced on 01299 250416. Programmes will also be available on the evening to commemorate the event. Doors open at 6 and the concert will start at 7pm, picnics are welcome prior to the performance.
So, pack a picnic, something to sit on and have a great night out at Hartlebury Castle this summer.
