Worcester Cathedral launches an ambitious King John Portrait Competition this week.

Get a head start and drop in on the Big Draw 2015 at Worcester Cathedral on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October, between 10am – 4pm, and create exploratory drawings of King John with artist Sara Hayward.

The challenge will be to create a new contemporary portrait of King John. Start by visiting his tomb in the Cathedral Quire, learn about his character and pick up details about the competition.

The King John Portrait Competition will be open until next summer when entrants will be selected for an exhibition in the Cathedral during October 2016 to coincide with the 800th anniversary of the death of King John.

Sara Hayward RCA, Assistant Education Officer at Worcester Cathedral said “This is my painted study of King John, but I am looking forward to seeing many different and contemporary interpretations of this unique character”.

The Big Draw 2015 at Worcester Cathedral is a free family activity (with donations invited to cover the cost of materials).

Full details of the prizes and how to enter the King John Portrait Competition can be found on a leaflet in the Cathedral or by visiting
