WINNERS RESULTS KING JOHN PORTRAIT COMPETITION & EXHIBITION
After much discussion they are now delighted to announce the following winners in two categories: in the under 18 category 1 (with Great Art vouchers for the artists kindly provided by Great Art): 1st was Bibi Rozier, aged 6 of St Gabriel’s with St Mary’s CE Primary School, Hanley Swan, Worcestershire; 2nd was Olivia Miyoshi Hankinson, aged 8 of Grimley & Holt CE Primary School, Worcestershire; 3rd was Kelvin Coker- aged 11 of Old Swinford Hospital School, Stourbridge, West Midlands.
Highly commended were Arthur Tunnicliffe of King’s School Worcester and Abigail Pickess (formally of Broadwas Primary (now at Chantry High School)).
In Category 2 for all ages: 1st was Roger Ward of Bromyard, Herefordshire, 2nd was Tibor Labancz of Worcester and 3rd was Karen Stone of Worcester.
Highly commended were Mercedes Pearson and Chloe Mills.
“There was a very high standard of entries”, said artist and Cathedral Education Officer Sara Hayward RCA, “The winners in each category really stood out - getting to grips with King John’s unique and difficult character; they also showed exceptional handling of media. Visitors will see portraits in oils, water colours, collage and some of the works are for sale.”
This free exhibition in the North Quire Aisle of Worcester Cathedral is open daily 9-4pm until Thursday 27th October and is to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of King John’s death on the night of 18th/19th October 1216 and his subsequent burial in Worcester Cathedral.
