On Wednesday 7th December the King’s School Worcester Foundation will mark the 475th Anniversary of the Re-Foundation of the School, which took place in 1541, with a day of special events culminating with a firework display.
As part of the celebrations, students and staff will participate in a range of events leading up to and throughout the Re-Foundation Day. Themed lessons, including short-story writing in 475 words, the design and creation of Tudor Roses in CAD, and a mathematical 475/1541 ‘Countdown,' will all form part of the School’s curriculum.
On the celebration day itself, Tudor Rose cakes will be given to every pupil and member of staff, who will all finish their day at 15:41 in recognition of the founding year of 1541. Also, a special bell peal will be rung from Worcester Cathedral until 16:30.
The firework display, which will begin at approximately 16:30, will be viewable from across the River Severn opposite the Michael Baker Boathouse, as well as from key vantage points along the river.
There are two key sponsors for the firework display. The principle sponsor is QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright, with whom the School has had a relationship for over 12 years. The event’s secondary sponsor is Brockway Carpets Ltd of Kidderminster.
QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright is one of the largest and most respected law firms in South Worcestershire.
Mr. Cyril Arridge, Managing Partner of QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright, said;
‘QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright is delighted to sponsor The King’s School Worcester 475th Anniversary celebrations. Our association with King’s is both personal and professional. Several of the Partners’ children have begun their education at King’s Hawford and moved onto King’s School, and we are proud to support one of the leading educational establishments in the County.’
Brockway Carpets Ltd, the secondary sponsor to the event, is a successful manufacturing company, owned and operated by the Annable family who has long, strong ties with King’s: Charles and Julia Annable are former pupils of the School and also current parents:
Mr. Charles Annable, Chairman and Managing Director of Brockway Carpets, said;
‘We are absolutely delighted to be able to help support such a spectacular end to the day of celebrations marking the 475th Anniversary of the Re-Foundation of the King’s School. King’s has always placed a great deal of value in generating a strong sense of community both amongst its pupils and former pupils and in its role at the heart of the City of Worcester. A firework display that will be enjoyed throughout the City is a fantastic way to end the day’.
The King’s School, Worcester is incredibly grateful for the generous support from the two sponsors of the event, without which the wonderful firework display would not be possible.
