The Love Your Local Market campaign returns to Worcester.

The Love Your Local Market Campaign was started in 2012 following recommendations made in the Mary Portas Review. The recommendations called for a National Market Day, which soon developed into Love Your Local Market Fortnight, that now takes place annually in May.

The campaign comes to Worcester’s Angel Place on Friday, 19th May with stalls decked out in the campaign colours, visiting musicians, living statues, a local birds of prey rescue centre, and a host of colourful characters that will include the famous Midlands market mascot Bananaman- who loves to give away free bananas! Saturday the 27th May which will see the much loved Upmarket in the High Street, again decked out in the campaign colours, descended upon by all the characters, entertainers and performers for a fun filled day along the length of the High Street.

From an initial take up of 400 markets, successive campaigns have developed into an international movement spanning 16 countries, with over 1100 markets participating in the UK alone in 2016. Since 2012 over 10,000 people have tried their hand at market trading and around 1500 new businesses have been created as a result. The main purpose of Love Your Local Market is to raise the profile of markets across the UK, encourage start-up businesses and increase young people’s involvement in markets.

The spokesperson for the events, Bananaman said "I love celebrating Love Your Local Market fortnight especially in Worcester who must have the friendliest traders and the warmest shoppers anywhere I've been, so I'm bringing a few extra bananas for my favourite people"

Traders will join in the campaign by offering discounts and special deals to customers.
