From the 13th – 17th November, Evesham Arts Centre will become home to Evesham Operatic and Dramatic Society as they take to the stage to perform Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar.

When first meeting with the cast to introduce her vision for the show, director Alison Roberts asked cast members to imagine a time where one of the most powerful leaders in the world totally divided opinion, where rebellion against the authority rumbled amongst the masses and many looked to one individual to lead them to a brighter future…sound familiar?

The society sought special permission from The Really Useful Group and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to present the show as a modernised representation of the classic yet timeless musical, for which rights are usually only granted under the proviso that the performance is done in the traditional style of the original presentations.

This is a unique opportunity to see the show performed by an amateur society in this style, backed by a full live rock band and with an ambitious and impressive set design. Set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events, the last week of Jesus’ life, the story is told through the eyes of Judas Iscariot and includes such well-known numbers as “Superstar”, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane”.

Tickets, which are just £12-£15, can be purchased by visiting, or by contacting the Almonry Museum in Evesham on 01386 446944.
