Ever wondered how the delicate lace creations of yesteryear were made? Here is your chance to learn the traditional craft of Torchon lace, brought brilliantly up to date with colour!
The first part of the day will be about getting to know the stitches used in Torchon lace, learning how to move the bobbins across the pillow to create different ways of weaving the threads to form the different stitches. After getting to grips with the technique you will choose to create either a book mark or a key fob pattern. There will be a vast array of colours to choose from. A rainbow of colours can look fantastic, equally tone-on-tone can be wonderfully elegant. Your finished design can be used for its intended use or you may find you are so delighted with the results, you choose to frame the finished piece.
Your tutor for the day started making lace nearly 25 years ago and has a wealth of experience to share with you about the traditional art of lace making. The workshop is designed for complete beginners and is also suitable for those with a little experience. The workshop will run from 10.00am until 4.00pm with a pause for lunch part way through the day.
Places on this workshop are limited to 8.
