Staycations are the new vacations in 2020 and like many of you I’m sure our planned summer holiday was cancelled so we decided to have a staycation at home in Worcester.
We were of course disappointed but I thought I’d share our staycation adventures instead. First up we visited the Wyre forest. We have been many times but usually do the Gruffalo trail. This time we did the woodpecker trail which 2.5 miles and takes you a different route. We really enjoyed the change of scenery and my eldest loved watching people zip wires over our heads on Go Ape.
The following day we went to All Things Wild. The tickets have to be booked in advance online. If you haven’t been it’s a great place in Honeybourne, Evesham. There’s so much to do. Dinosaur train and walk, animals, play areas, fossil digging, tractors. We were there 3 1/2 hours and did most things but we could have stayed longer.
During our staycation we also wanted to explore some villages and towns we hadn’t been to before. We had a nice couple of hours over the border at Bidford-on-Avon where there is a large play area and picnic area by the river. My boys loved watching the boys go past. There’s also a couple of nice pubs over looking the Avon too.
We tried to make the most of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme this week too. On one of the rainy days we headed to St Peters Garden Centre and had lunch there with 50% off. I have to say it was quite busy but the food was lovely and they had a great system in place for social distancing.
I also managed to have a girls day out with my friend who doesn’t live in Worcester. It was great to have a catch up and have a walk down the river in the sun. We had a lovely meal at Browns at the Quay and coffee at Commandery Coffee.
Overall we’ve had a lovely staycation week in and around Worcester. A few park visits, some fresh air and nice food. I hope any of you who have had cancelled holidays have still had a rest and some family time.
