Great Witley Parish Church – Groups
St Michael's and All Angels, Great Witley, Worcestershire, 38 Pinkett Street, Worcester, WR6 6JT
Great Witley Parish Church has the most stunning interior of any Baroque church in England. Attached to, although not part of, English Heritage's Witley Court, entry is free and there is a display about the history of the court and church.
The church, now almost fully restored, displays a splendour which is unique amongst country churches in Britain, with exquisite gilded decorations throughout, numerous paintings by Antonio Bellucci, ten painted glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible, highly decorative carving and a large monument by Rysbrack.
It also has a fine 18th century organ. Many musicians consider its acoustics for music to be as fine as any building of its size outside London.
The crypt is contains 18th century lead coffins, the Earl of Dudley’s granite sarcophagus, and a 1804 Samuel Thorp restored tower clock.
The church opening times can be found on our website.
The Crypt will be open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Weekends and bank Holidays from Easter until the end of October.
The tea rooms will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of the October half-term.
